Before I invite you to save and make a fortune from unpublicised Government auction sales, let me make something perfectly clear: during a recession, a credit crunch, hard times - call it what you will - there really is no reason at all to "cut back" or to "feel the pinch". In every situation, however apparently grave, there are winners as well as losers  - you just have to know where to look, and how to spot an opportunity when it is staring you in the face.

Every day companies go bankrupt in the UK. From small local businesses to household names such as Woolworths, Barratts, Whittard, MFI and Zavvi, companies large and small, are being forced into receivership. Bankruptcy can happen at any time and for all sorts of reasons: over-expansion, mismanagement, cash flow, competition, misjudging fashions and trends and especially during a recession.

In many cases companies can see the end coming and dispose of their assets before insolvency strikes. Others, however, bravely soldier on until the bitter end sinking further and further into debt until eventually a creditor has them forcibly shut down and declared bankrupt where their assets are seized and liquidated (turned into cash) in order to pay off the company's creditors.

Naturally, this can be very distressing for some of those concerned, but for others it's simply a fact of life and an opportunity to start again, set up shop elsewhere and embark on a new adventure. Types of Auctions

What I mean when I use the term 'government auction' are those auction houses and agents which primarily deal with the stock that needs to be liquidated by various government departments and other such official bodies. For example:

HM Revenue & Customs, for instance, may be entering at auction items seized from smugglers, fraudsters and racketeers - luxury goods such as boats, planes, cars and the like, some of which have been used for smuggling contraband. Whereas The Official Receiver will usually handle bankrupt stock, Executors the assets of individuals, whilst the bailiffs will handle goods that have been confiscated through non-payment of bills and repossessions by finance companies. In a nutshell, here's what you find at Government Auctions, everything and anything!

Seriously, just have a look at eBay and make a list of all the different types of goods they sell. Now add to that list all the things they're not allowed to sell: cigarettes, alcohol, food, police lost property, unredeemed pawnbrokers pledges and much more besides. That's what you can find being disposed of at Government Auctions, the whole cornucopia of existence.

There really isn't a single type of business, manufacturer or section of society that isn't represented. And the vast majority of these "captured" items are offered at NO RESERVE PRICES, which means that goods must be sold at whatever price is offered - you could literally pay just a few pounds for a luxury item that is worth many times that, often hundreds of pounds.
